My Testimony
I grew up in a Christian home. Both of my parents taught Sunday School and my father was a deacon in the little country church we attended. There was never any foul language or alcohol in our home.
I was taught that Jesus loved me from the beginning. I remember sitting on my tricycle, learning John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
I accepted Jesus as my Savior when I was 9 years old. We were having a series of nightly meetings that we called a revival. Each evening, at the end of the service, the preacher would invite people to go to the front of the church and accept Jesus, and each evening, I would feel something inside pulling me to go forward, but my feet wouldn't move. Finally, on the last night of the meetings, I stepped forward and received Jesus as my Savior. I didn't understand a lot of what was going on, and I didn't really grow spiritually for a long time, but I knew I belonged to Jesus.
When I left home, and went to school to become a nurse, I learned to depend on Jesus, and to study God's word. I got involved in Bible study groups, and God put several strong Christians in my life to help me grow.
I used to hear testimonies from people who had very different experiences, before they were saved. They would tell exciting stories about how bad they were, and give examples of things they had done. When I head them, I would think, "My testimony is dull! I never was into drugs, or alcohol, the mob, or anything like that!"
Then I realized, it's not about me! It's about Jesus! And what He did for me! He suffered and died, just as much for me, as He did for the drug user, or the Mafia guy, or the drunkard. He saved me from going through those things, and He's alive today, to keep me safe from them.
He gives me peace when my life is in turmoil.
My youngest son was born with a birth defect, and had to go to a hospital, far from home, for surgery. While we were there, my father had an accident, which resulted in a serious head injury. But Jesus was with us through it all, and provided for all out needs. Now that son is grown, and loves the Lord.
When my husband was in Seminary, we were far from home, there was little money, and our sons were becoming teenagers. It was a difficult time, but the Lord provided.
I know that Jesus is with me every day and in every situation, to guide me and provide for me. I often forget this and try to work things out for myself, but He waits patiently for me to remember, and to turn the pieces over to Him.
Jesus didn't just save me and let me be. He is my constant companion and benefactor. When I feel alone, or someone lets me down, Jesus is there to comfort me. When I am afraid, He is there to protect me.
My prayer is that if you don't already know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you will accept Him now, and get to know the peace and joy He gives.
